The Antarctic and Arctic are important units of the Earth's climate system, storing more than 98% of the ice and snow, and more than 80% of the freshwater in the earth, including all the interaction processes of the atmosphere, oceans, land, ice, snow and living organisms.
The polar regions have unique information about the evolution of the Earth system in the past and is of great significance for understanding the Earth system and its interaction with human activities. The fourth assessment report released by IPCC (UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) states that "global warming is an irrefutable fact, and climate change in the North and South Arctic is an indicator of global climate change."
With the sponsorship of IPPA, some polar researchers involve into Polar Science Expedition of Youths Program. In 2019, 2020, and 2023, there were more than two hundred school students came to the Arctic and Antarctic. Led by those polar experts, the students investigated the polar environment and ecology, animals and vegetations, glaciers and marine, and observed the impact of global warming to the polar regions.
Through the polar investigations, the young students not only learned the knowledges of Arctic and Antarctic, but also grasped field study skills and some methods of physics, chemistry and biology experiment. The special journey to the south and north regions gives a lifelong memory to each of them.
