Our Charter

Mission Statement

IPPA aims to advocate polar environmental protection, cope with the overexploitation of tourism resources, mitigate the threats to the polar region posed by global warming, increase public awareness about polar science education, and standardize the tourism development in polar regions under the premise of protecting the polar environment.

IPPA Administration

IPPA was registered as an “Association” in Oslo, Norway in 2019.


IPPA will abide by the administration By-Laws as outlined in the By-Law document signed during incorporation.

The Board

The Board is the highest authority between the annual meetings.


The Board shall Implement annual meeting resolutions, appoint any committees or persons to do special tasks and prepare instructions for them, administer and maintain necessary control of the association's finances in accordance with current instructions and regulations.


The board members shall serve no more than two consecutive five-year terms.

Scientific Committee

IPPA sets up a standing Scientific Committee, which provides guidance and supervision on the association.


The Scientific Committee have a total of 20 members who are appointed by the Board. The SC members shall serve a five-year non-consecutive term.

Role of IPPA

The goals and purpose of IPPA will be achieved through the following activities:


  • Initialize and organize global polar environmental campaigns to promote the public understanding the importance of polar environmental protection.


  • Enhance the exchanges of polar researchers around the world.


  • Set up an award for young polar scientists for their contributions and achievements for polar protection.


  • Educate young people on polar science and encourage them to access into the polar region.


  • Research the impact of human activities to the polar region, e.g. tourism, manufacturing, fishery, mining, housing development, and compile the Blue Book of Polar Environmental Protection.


  • Carry out global charity campaigns for polar environmental protection

Membership

Qualified individuals or institutes join the IPPA by applying the association membership.  The Membership Registration Division (MRD)  is responsible to accept, collate and assess application.

Rights and Obligations

All members have the right to attend an annual meeting, have the right to vote and are eligible for union membership. 


The members are obliged to adhere to decisions made at the annual meeting.

Annual Meeting

The annual meeting convened by the board is held every year. The annual meeting is resolved with the number of voting members attending, and all members have one vote.

IPPA logo

The association logo is the unique identity of the IPPA and what it represents. Only the association members and endorsed organizer or individual may use the emblem. Individuals, companies, corporations or other business entities may not use the logo without IPPA’s permission. Any IPPA logos displayed on a website must be linked to www.polarprotection.org. The logo may not be altered, including changes to color, shape, typeface and content. Only the size may be altered so long as original logo proportions remain the same.
