The Arctic and Antarctic play a central role in the Earth's climate system, including its atmosphere,
oceans, landcover, ice and biology. Through these interactions, the high latitude of the earth are both
drivers and subjects of global climate change.
As a consequence of atmospheric warming, the Polar Regions are experiencing a rapid increase in the
melt rate of glaciers, sea ice and permafrost, with wide repercussions for the entire global ecosystem.
Also of increasing concern is the warming and acidification of the Arctic and Southern Oceans. These
changes impact fisheries and aquaculture, animal husbandry, tourism, maritime transportation, human
settlements, indigenous cultures and economies.
In the post epidemic era, the focus of national governments will inevitably turn to domestic societal and
development issues, boosting economic output, and the resilience of health care systems. In this context,
international collaboration on polar environmental changes and protection is more important than ever.
Only if all countries and stakeholders co-operate together to enhance scientific research, improve
regulations and diminish polluting activities will we succeed in protecting polar environments.
International Conference on Polar Environmental Change and Protection (ICPECP) is an annual event for
those who are committed to the protection of polar environment including government officers, scientists,
international organizations, enterprisers, educators, media, and volunteers. ICPECP provides an
opportunity for them to showcase their work and ideas, listen to each other, discuss important issues, and
find the way of protecting polar environment through international collaboration.
